JAMMU - A three-month-old baby girl and a paramilitary official were killed and several people injured after a shell exploded in the house of a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier in Bishna village here on Friday.

The high-intensity blast took place around 8.30 a.m. shattering the windowpanes of neighbouring houses.

Police said a “shell-like object” caused the explosion.

“After investigation we came to know that this is a residence of Harbans Singh, whose son Avinash Singh is a BSF soldier. We found that some shell-like object has been used here for blast,” said H. S. Gill, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Bishna village, Jammu.

“Our Bomb Disposal Squad are here and we have called Border Security Force authorities. So, investigations are on. Avinash Singh’s two brothers and their wives are injured; one girl child is dead. Total seven members of the family are injured,” he added.

Villagers said the sound of the blast could be heard up to five kilometres.

“As we reached here we saw people of Bishna Village who heard the sound of the blast. The condition of the blast site is very dreadful,” said Ashok Kumar, a villager.

The survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition is said to be serious. By Tahir Nadeem Khan (ANI)
