LONDON - Pakistan’s noted human rights activist, Asma Jahangir, has said that blasphemy laws were being misused in the country and have caused negative impressions about the country abroad.

Speaking at a function organized by the UK-based Pakistan Journalists Association in London, Jahangir suggested trying all blasphemy-related cases in high courts, aimed at ensuring better transparency and avoiding ambiguities.

She also suggested constitution of a committee to discuss and debate all aspects of blasphemy laws, the Nation reports.

The newly elected Supreme Court Bar Association President’s comments come at a time when the Lahore High Court has sentenced the Christian mother of five, Aasia Bibi to death for blasphemy. (ANI)
