COLOMBO - The world’s biggest ever ‘kiribath’, or rice cake, has been prepared in Sri Lanka to celebrate the re-inauguration ceremony of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the country’s President on Friday.

Rajapaksa took the oath of office on an open-air stage outside his seafront office.

According to the BBC, some 12,000 kilograms of white rice, 1,500 coconuts and 300 kilograms of cashew nuts are some of the ingredients for the very special Sri Lankan recipe.

The cake is being kept at a special exhibition in Colombo, where dancers from Kandy have also converged to show their skills.

However, the opposition and the government’s critics are boycotting the festivities, calling them a waste of public funds.

The 65-year-old was re-elected in January after calling an election four years into his six-year term. (ANI)
