ISLAMABAD - US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, has said that the sources of funding for terrorists and militants come from outside Pakistan and through extortion of NATO supply convoys.

“Funding of terrorism is a serious issue and they are being addressing matter,” the Daily Times quoted Holbrooke, who is currently in Islamabad to attend the Pakistan Development Forum (PDF), as saying.

He further said that Pakistan and Afghanistan would have to cooperate to resolve the issue of terrorism.

“If Pakistan wishes to play a role in the process of reconciliation in Afghanistan, it would be welcomed,” Holbrooke said.

The US special envoy also stressed that Pakistan must take the lead for ensuring the availability of financial resources for rehabilitation of flood victims in the country.

To a question, Holbrooke said that the PDF meeting was not a pledging session, but a platform where the ‘Friends of Pakistan’ can listen to the priorities of the government and discuss substantial proposals and plans.

He said that he would make announcements at the meeting on Monday to demonstrate absolute commitment of the US for assistance to Pakistan. (ANI)
