LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (GaeaTimes.com)- The residents of London are struggling to reach their offices today as the staffs if the vast Tube network of the City are on a 24 hour long strike. This is the third strike called by the London Tube workers and they are up in arms against the suggested job cuts. The majority of the commuters in London depend on the Tube network and the strike made things extremely difficult for them. Only 40 percent of the total number of trains were running which clearly was inadequate fort coping with the load. The Rail Maritime and Transport union said that the workers remained united in their support for the strike and the service was truncated in many parts of the city. The passengers were at the receiving end.
On an average the London Tube network carries around 3 million passengers per day. Almost 11000 union members have participated in the Tube strike. Bob Crow the RMT union leader said “All the reports from the front line are that today’s action over safe Tube staffing levels is rock solid the length and breadth of the system.” He also added that the agitating staff are sending a strong signal to Boris Johnson the mayor to think twice about the job cuts. He demanded that the well being and safety of the workers should be the first priority.
The Unions have warned that if the authorities do not pay heed to the ongoing London Tube strike a fourth strike may also take place. The unions are also of the opinion that the number of proposed job cuts may rise to 2000.
