‘Complete chaos reigns in Pak intelligence agencies’ working’

ISLAMABAD - The job description of various intelligence agencies in Pakistan is not clear, an article in the Daily Times has claimed.

The ISI’s job description is to “look after external threats”, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) is supposed to take care of internal security and the Military Intelligence (MI) after military-related affairs.

However, in reality, “the ISI does everything, MI does everything and so does the IB”, the newspaper quoted Jameel Ahmed, a security expert, as saying.

It said that the ISI is entirely deputed to counter the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qaeda and jihadi nexus, while the MI looks after the politicians’ manipulating and threatening business.

The paper further highlighted that despite a process that looks clear, there is no identification part or coordination between the intelligence agencies in the country.

“So if someone says he’s from the MI, he’s possibly from the ISI and if someone says he’s from the army, he’ll probably be an IB official,” the article claimed.

It concluded by saying that the newly formed counter-terrorism board was a good step by the government to actually help all intelligence agencies to exchange information under one shadow authority.

However, there is the need to make massive changes, where the government needs to invest heavily in intelligence agencies with greater transparency. (ANI)
