Pak calls for ‘real time intelligence’ to preempt terror attacks from its soil on West

ISLAMABAD - Just weeks after security alerts were beefed up all across Europe following reports of planned terror strikes on its cities, Pakistan has called for greater intelligence sharing for taking ‘preemptive measures’ against any possible terrorist attacks against Britain and other western countries emanating from its soil.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani proposed cooperation between Pakistani and British intelligence agencies during talks with visiting British Home Secretary Theresa May, The News reported.
“The Prime Minister proposed that Pakistan and Britain should consider a mechanism as well as parameters for cooperation between their security agencies,” the PM office said in a statement.
“He further stressed upon sharing of information and real time intelligence to enable the Pakistan authorities for taking the preemptive measures against any possible threat to UK and other western countries from terrorists,” it added.
Gilani also said that “despite daunting challenges, Pakistan will continue to fight the menace of terrorism for the sake of peace and prosperity of the world.”
He pointed out that poverty, lack of education and underdevelopment were the “root causes” of extremism and terrorism.
May “appreciated” Pakistan’s efforts and “its role as a bulwark against terrorism to contribute towards the regional and world’s stability,” said the statement.
“She said that her government wants to work in a cooperative way with Pakistan on matters relating to counter terrorism…,” it added. (ANI)
