Fierce gun battle in Srinagar outskirts

SRINAGAR - A gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in Malura village on the outskirts Srinagar on Thursday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, troops of the counter-insurgency the Rashtriya Rifles and the special operations group (SOG) of police surrounded Malura village, 16 km from city centre Lal Chowk on the Srinagar-Bandipora road.

As the security forces moved in, they came under fire from militants hiding in a house there. They are reported to be foreigners and belonging to the Jaish

The gun battle was on when reports last came in. (ANI)
