ANANTAPUR - Residents of Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur District burnt vehicles and staged protests over the demolition of an old temple by highway authorities.

Trouble began soon after National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials demolished the Sunkulamma Temple in the district’s Baghepalli village to improve traffic flow.

Officials said the temple, which was located in the middle of the project site, needed to be removed to facilitate better movement of traffic.

The temple was finally demolished with the help of the local police.

The situation was brought under control after two hours. By Ranjeet Jadhav (ANI)
