ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s National Aliens Registration Authority (Nara) has claimed that over two million Bengalis are residing in Karachi alone.

According to The News, it has further told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior that over 53,000 Bengali migrants have been registered to be living in Sindh.

The committee meeting, chaired by Abdul Qadir Patel, recommended that a joint meeting of Nara and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) be organised to speed up the registration process of Bengalis.

The Interior Ministry representatives said in the meeting that a proposed amendment was being considered under the Foreigners Act as it involved security and economic implications.

The committee further expressed concern over the recent incidents of target killings in Karachi and urged the government to take necessary actions and strict measures so that the law and order situation could be improved.

The next meeting of the committee would be held in Karachi on October 27, the paper said. (ANI)
