Timely detection of IED averts tragedy in Srinagar (Second Lead)

SRINAGAR - Alert security guards foiled a terror attack Monday when they detected an improvised explosive device (IED) planted outside a police control room in this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital, police said.

The IED, which was safely destroyed through a controlled explosion by the bomb disposal squad, had been planted outside the police control room in Srinagar’s Batmaloo area.

The IED was detected in time by the alert guards posted at the police control room in Srinagar. The IED had been planted by militants, but its timely detection helped avert what could have been a major tragedy,” a police officer said.

The bomb disposal squad reached the spot and safely destroyed the IED without it causing any damage,” he added.

As the bomb disposal squad conducted the controlled explosion of the IED, a loud blast was heard in several areas of the city.
