SRINAGAR - The Jammu and Kashmir police detected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) outside a police control room and defused it here on Monday.

The device was recovered minutes before a crucial security meeting on shifting the capital from Srinagar to Jammu for six months of winter.

Top security officials are viewing this incident as a major security lapse as the explosive was planted just outside the police control room.

“We were told that somebody has planted a mine here. We have evacuated the whole area and covered the spot with sandbags. We have called bomb defusing squad,” said Mohammad Yousuf, Superintendent of Police, Srinagar Control Room.

“If somebody has planted a mine right in front of the PCR, then for sure it is a matter of grave concern,” he added.

A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot and safely exploded the device in controlled circumstances.(ANI)
