Cases against Zardari can’t be reopened in Swiss courts: Khosa

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan government’s counsel in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case, Senator Latif Khosa, has ruled out any possibility of reopening the cases against President Asif Ali Zardari in Swiss courts.

“Neither any case will be reopened against President Asif Zardari in Swiss courts nor it can be,” The Nation quoted Khosa, as saying in a TV interview.

He claimed that not even a single penny out of 60 million dollars in Swiss accounts belonged to the Pakistani government.

“$60 million do not even belong to the Government of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Nusrat Bhutto,” Khosa said.

He also stated that Zardari did not get any benefit from the ordinance, and that the NRO was aimed at wiping out political vendetta.

“We cannot earn insult to the 180 million people and the Constitution by writing a letter to the Swiss courts”, he said, as he vowed not to write any letter for reopening the cases.

To a query, Khosa said that though the cases against Zardari had been reopened in Pakistani courts, they would remain suspended as the president enjoyed immunity.

Last month, the senator had stated that there was a misperception that that the government was not implementing the Supreme Court order on the Swiss cases, but added that asking a Swiss magistrate to try Pakistan President would be tantamount to insulting the nation’s people.

Presently, the cases of the Pakistan government’s review plea against the NRO verdict and implementation of the NRO judgement are underway in the Supreme Court. (ANI)
