Three out of 10 Brits have no savings to survive five days of unemployment: Survey

LONDON - A new survey has revealed that nearly a third of Britons do not have enough savings to last them for five days if they were unable to work.
According to the survey conducted by HSBC, three out of 10 people have less than 249 pounds set aside to see them through an emergency, while a third of them have no savings at all.
It also found that only one in five people would be able to continue paying their mortgage or rent or other bills if they were unable to work or lost their job.
Thirty-six percent said that they would rely on government support to cover the bills if they were not working, while 22 percent said that they would have to rely on their partner.
“These findings demonstrate a worrying lack of preparation amongst UK residents,” the Daily Mail quoted Richard Brown, head of savings at HSBC, as saying.
“With the current climate of uncertainty, it is of utmost importance that people are setting aside a realistic sum of money to be used in emergencies,” he added. (ANI)
