Three militants killed in Kashmir gunfight

SRINAGAR - Three separatist guerrillas were killed in a south Kashmir gunfight with security forces, police said Thursday.

Three militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in Keller village of Shopian district. On a tip, troops of the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of police cordoned off a house in Keller village late Wednesday night.

The hiding militants were asked to surrender. But they opened fire on the troops leading to the gun battle.

Three militants, one belonging to south Kashmir and two others from Rajouri district of the Jammu region were killed, Shafqat Ahmad Watali, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) south Kashmir told IANS.

No security personnel or civilian was injured in the gunfight, the officer said.
