GANDERBAL - People of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district want the construction of the Wayil Power Receiving Station, which has been held up due to a land dispute, expedited.
The area experiences heavy snowfall during winters.
The construction of the power station started in 2004 in Ganderbal district, 22 kilometers from Srinagar. It was, however, stopped midway due to a dispute.
The Forest Minister, Mian Altaf, said that the power station would be rebuilt elsewhere and would become functional shortly.
“There was some fight between the land owner and the administration because of which the construction got delayed. The person who sold his land to the administration asked for a job in the power plant and the administration promised him a job. But later the owner of the land opened a restaurant at the same place,” said Altaf.
“As it was on a highway, the work was left unfinished. So, we bought another plot of land and started the work there. It took some time but now it’s ready and it would start functioning in the next two weeks,” he added.
Altaf also said that due to poor climatic conditions and unrest in the Kashmir Valley, many infrastructure and development projects got delayed all over the region. By Afzal Bhat (ANI)
