LONDON - A British man sold all his belongings after being being given just six months to live - only to be told later: “It was a mistake. You won’t die.”
Malcolm McMahon, 55, flogged heirlooms and premium bonds, gave his beloved dog away and put his four-bedroomed house up for sale after being informed he had terminal cancer.
Malcolm’s GP had interpreted ultrasound scans of his liver and gave him the devastating news.
But three months later he went for a further examination at Birmingham City Hospital and was told the cancer cells on his liver were harmless lesions.
The ex-pawnbroker, of Birmingham, who lost his mum and brother to cancer, said: “All that time spent worrying over nothing. I’m glad I’m okay but furious at what I’ve been put through.
“I started selling things three days after being told I only had months to live. By the end I let things go just to get rid of them,” the Sun quoted McMahon as saying.
“I gave away good quality cameras, binoculars, and personal possessions and even sold things my parents had left me,” he added.
Items he sold to give his loved ones financial stability included 400 pounds vases that he let go for 80 pounds.
His GP’s surgery refused to comment yesterday. Specialist advisor Dr Nicholas Plant, who reported on the case, said: “It was difficult. The original findings were highly suggestive of cancer.” (ANI)
