LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (GaeaTimes.com)- Howard Jacobson a British author has bagged the Booker prize for 2010 for his novel named “The Finkler Question”. He beat the shortlisted authors Andrea Levy, Tom McCarthy, Emma Donoghue and Peter Carey. Sir Andrew Motion who is the judging panel head said that the writing of the author is of high class and it shares qualities with none other than the bard of Avon! The comic book that fetched the author the much coveted award deals with the relation between three friends -Sam Finkler, Julian Treslove and Libor Sevick. The author has written 15 books so far.
Howard Jacobson had appeared in the list for Bookers prize but never got shortlisted earlier. The author admitted after winning the prestigious award that he had hoped for the award for a long time. Now that he has got it he does not feel underrated anymore, the author said in a statement. When he was asked what he would do with the money that amounts to 50,000 he jokingly said he would buy a handbag for his spouse. Sir Andrew Motion said that the book was selected because it turned out to be the best among the lot. It has comic elements and laughter but also has a sublime melancholic note. He said it will appeal to the matured minded people.
Many expected Peter Carey to walk away with the Bookers prize 2010 which would have made him a three time winner but that did not happen. The win may hike the sales of the book but at the same time it will make the expectation of the readers higher from his next book.
