US Marshals join search for Whitey Bulger
BOSTON — A task force searching for fugitive Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger is getting some extra help.
Known for its success in tracking down wanted men, the U.S. Marshals Service recently assigned a deputy marshal to work full time with the Bulger task force. The group is led by the FBI and includes state investigators.
A spokesman for the FBI’s Boston office says investigators hope the marshals’ international contacts can help track down Bulger. The marshals have had some involvement in the search in the past, but this is the first time they’ve had a full-time person assisting.
Bulger disappeared just before his 1995 federal racketeering indictment in Boston and was later charged with 19 murders. The last confirmed sighting was in 2002 in London.
