JAMMU - The Jammu and Kashmir police Friday claimed to have foiled a terror plot by recovering three kg of RDX from a crowded crossing in the heart of Jammu city here.

Police said the explosives were found in a fruit box near Indira Chowk in the vicinity of the legislators’ hostel in the evening.

“This could have been part of a terrorist plot,” said the police source.

Farooq Khan, deputy inspector general of police, Jammu range, said: “We have recovered explosives and have sent these to the forensic laboratory.”

He said security has been stepped up in view of celebration of Navratras, nine days considered pious by Hindus when devotees throng temples in large numbers to offer prayers.

Jammu is known as a city of temples and a large number of pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi shrine pass through the city.
