COIMBATORE - The Indian Dental Association (IDA) in Coimbatore recorded at least 17,000 footfalls within the first three hours of the dental camp alone.

About 48 dentists organized Teeth 2010, which not just offered screening services but also free treatment for oral ailments such as fillings and tooth removal.

“To create awareness, the IDA Coimbatore chapter has organized this awareness programme. Idea of this programme is to improve the oral hygiene and along with 48 doctors and 48 house surgeons, we have organized this programme,” said Dr. Surinder, the president of the Coimbatore chapter of the IDA.

Thousands of people attended the camp for the screening, which went on for over 24 hours.

“Basically, they are checking if there are any bad teeth and also its cleanliness. Some of the patients have also been given medicines here, and other treatments for their dental problems,” said Gomthi, a patient.

IDA Coimbatore has claimed that it has surpassed the earlier Guinness World Record of 3,374 people being screened at a 2008 dental awareness camp, organized by the outfit’s Mumbai branch.

The participating dentists have said they aim to reach the figure of 20, 000 people before they submit the feat to the Guinness World Record officials. (ANI)
