Pak arrests 5 Indian fishermen for violating maritime boundary

KARACHI - The Maritime Security Agency (MSA) of Pakistan has arrested five Indian fishermen for fishing inside Pakistani territorial waters.

MSA spokesperson Lt Commander Naeem said the five fishermen were arrested while fishing in the exclusive economic zone on Tuesday night, the Daily Times reported.

Their fishing vessel has also been seized by the MSA.

There have been numerous incidents of Indian fishermen been arrested by the Pakistani maritime force for violating the maritime boundary between the two countries.

In this regard, Sayyad Iqbal Haider, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, had pleaded to the apex court last month to pass a ruling that once an Indian fisherman completes his sentence for illegally crossing into the country, the Pakistani authorities must repatriate him.

Pakistan has released 2,723 Indian fishermen and India has released 512 Pakistani fishermen since 2003. (ANI)
