Philly-to-Bermuda flight departs after scare

PHILADELPHIA — A US Airways flight to Bermuda has left Philadelphia hours after security concerns led officials to empty the plane.

FBI spokesman J.J. Klaver says two US Airways baggage handlers on the tarmac raised concerns about a third baggage handler who was not supposed to be in the area. He says that person took off in a vehicle and has not been identified or located.

Klaver says nothing suspicious was found and there are no suspicions of any terrorist link.

The flight had been scheduled to depart at about 11 a.m. Passengers were instead removed and the plane was towed to a secure area for inspection. The Airbus 319 was surrounded by emergency vehicles with lights flashing, and security dogs moved from bag to bag, checking luggage spread on the ground near the jet.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.
