Firefighters put out small fire at Commerce Dept.
WASHINGTON — Officials say firefighters in the nation’s capital have put out a small fire at the Department of Commerce building.
No injuries were reported in the fire Thursday night on the third floor of the government building.
Deputy Fire Chief Kenny Crosswhite told Washington media outlets that the fire happened in a storage room where workers were doing asbestos abatement. The building was evacuated.
Crosswhite did not immediately return a call to The Associated Press.
In a news release, the Commerce Department said the building will be closed Friday.
