KARNAL - Farmers in Haryana on Monday blocked National Highway Number One in protest against the government’s failure to buy their crops.

The farmers also set alight a heap of wheat as a mark of protest and said the authorities have given them assurance on Sunday that they will buy the food grains but nothing has happened.

“Our food grains are rotting. We demand that the authorities buy it at a good rate. The farmer is badly hit due to this. It has been many days now,” said Brijesh Singh.

The agitated farmers also said they would continue to protest until the government intervenes in the matter.

“Where we would go, the authorities would have to come here. We will remove the blockade once the authorities come and give us assurance that our food items would be brought,” Singh added.

The policemen were seen deployed at the site to handle any untoward incident but did not interfere in the protest. (ANI)
