Twin Cities Marathon Takes Place

MINNEAPOLIS (GaeaTimes.com)- The manner in which this year’s Twin Cities Marathon unfolded on Sunday was definitely a dream come true for Ethiopian athlete Buzunesh Deba. After completing the race at 2:27:24, the 23-year-old runner become the winner in the women’s category of the event leaving behind some of the other promising runners who participated in the race that took place on Sunday. However, victory tasted all the more sweet for Buzunesh Deba as with the win she created history by winning both the Twin Cities Marathon and Grandma’s Marathon in the same year. The feat achieved by the 23-year-old athlete is indeed special as she has become the first women to win two premiere marathon events of the state of Minnesota in the same year.
With Buzunesh Deba clinching the first position, Svetlana Ponomarenko of Russia came second by completing the race by 2:35:23 while the third slot was reserved by another Ethiopian runner Serkalem Abrha, who finished the race within 2:36:16. In the men’s race of the Twin Cities Marathon, Sergio Reyes of California was the first one to complete the race within a time period of 2:14:02 and following him in the second position was Jeffrey Eggleston. Fernando Cabada, a native of Longmont, Colorado registered the third position in the men’s section of the race by touching the finishing line at 2:15:25.
Among the athletes of Minnesota who were able to make a mark in the Twin Cities Marathon were Donovan Fellows, who came ninth in the men’s race while Nichole Porath of Red Wing grabbed the 20th slot in the women’s category of the race.
