SRINAGAR - Authorities Sunday imposed curfew in Srinagar and other major towns in north Kashmir to scuttle a proposed separatist march.

“Curfew has been imposed in Srinagar city and towns of Baramulla district today (Sunday)while restrictions shall remain in force in major towns of south Kashmir,” a senior police officer said here.

“The decision to impose curfew has been taken to prevent violence by miscreants and anti-social elements,” he added.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, who has been spearheading the ‘Quit Kashmir’ campaign for nearly four months now, has asked people to march to north Kashmir Baramulla town.

Sunday’s separatist march is part of the protest calendar Geelani has been issuing on a weekly basis for the last four months.

So far, 109 people have lost their lives because of the ongoing unrest in the Valley that began June 11.
