Tea party activists want to depose Rep. Grayson
ORLANDO, Fla. — Tea party activists want to hear from U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson on whether he had a role in getting a tea party candidate to run in his congressional race to try to siphon votes from his Republican challenger.
Grayson received a deposition notice on Wednesday.
The Democrat is facing conservative Republican Daniel Webster in November. Subpoenas also were served on the tea party candidate, Peg Dunmire, and political consultant Douglas Guetzloe.
The deposition is part of a defamation lawsuit Guetzloe filed against the activists.
The chairman of the local tea party says no link exists.
A Grayson spokesman calls the allegations part of “conspiracy theories tossed around by the Republican establishment.”
Dunmire calls the depositions “childish pranks.”
