Tea party group wants to question Rep. Grayson
ORLANDO, Fla. — A group of tea party activists wants to hear from U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson about whether he had a role in getting a candidate from another tea party faction to run to siphon votes from his Republican challenger.
Grayson, a Democrat, faces GOP candidate Daniel Webster. Grayson was served with a deposition notice on Wednesday on behalf of three tea party activists.
They want to ask if he helped get Peg Dunmire to run. She is a member of the state-recognized Florida Tea Party.
Subpoenas also were served on Dunmire and political consultant Douglas Guetzloe. Guetzloe has filed a defamation lawsuit against the three activists.
The Florida Tea Party chairman says no Grayson link exists.
A Grayson spokesman calls the allegations part of Republican “conspiracy theories.”
Dunmire calls the depositions “childish pranks.”
