Gauguin exhibit opens at Tate Modern in London

LONDON — The Tate Modern in London is exhibiting the major works of the French artist Paul Gauguin — one of the rare occasions his major pieces have been shown together.

The exhibition includes 150 pieces, including paintings, drawings, and a collection of letters, journals and sculptures.

The collection is a narrative of Gauguin’s life, with works organized in thematic sections that emphasize the parallels between his life and his career as an artist.

Belinda Thomson, curator at the Tate, says the exhibition showcases the “uncanny, quirky and unexpected elements characteristic of Gauguin’s work.”

The exhibition was previewed Tuesday. It opens Sept. 30 and runs until Jan. 16.
