Silchar (Assam), Sep.23 (ANI): In a reference to the expected court verdict on the Babri Masjid title case in Ayodhya, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the issue has its relevance in certain parts of Indian society, but added that there were other issues of fundamental importance as well.

He said that in a democracy there are people for whom such decisions are important. But, in a democracy, unfortunately, one has to listen to people’s views and that separates us from a dictatorship.

Interacting with students at the Assam Central University at Silchar today, Gandhi said: “You know, there are people in this country for whom those kind of decisions are important. They have a perspective and a view on that. My personal view is that there are many many fundamental things that are much more important like infrastructure, the kind of education we provide our youngsters, like the type of technology they use. Many, many things are important. But in a democracy, unfortunately, you have to listen to people’s views. And if people feel that is the big issue, that’s what happens. That’s the difference between us and a dictatorship. And I very much value the idea that we are a democracy.” (ANI)
