Nike boots bedbugs, reopens New York Niketown

NEW YORK — Four days after closing its Niketown store in New York City to rid it of bedbugs, athletic clothing and shoe maker Nike Inc. says the store is open again.

The company closed the store on Friday after finding bedbugs. It says they’re gone now after several days of using an environmentally friendly treatment program.

However, another of the company’s stores — a smaller Nike Sportswear store in the SoHo district of Manhattan — is now closed after bedbugs were found there. A spokesman says it should reopen shortly.

Bedbugs have been discovered in a New York City theater, office buildings, stores, and posh apartments.

The city has launched an information and outreach campaign to help people understand how the bugs are spread and how to get rid of them.
