Assam complies with NHRC order, pays Rs.10 lakh as relief to police firing victims kin

NEW DELHI - The Government of Assam has complied with the recommendation of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to pay the families of two victims of police firing a sum of Rs. five lakhs each.

Ram Nath Chauhan and Jawahar Singh Gour became victims of excessive use of fire arms against protesters by police in Mailo area under Kheroni police station in Karbi Anglong District of Assam on August 16, 2008.

The NHRC had taken up the case on a complaint filed by Suhas Chakma of the Asian Human Rights Organisation. (ANI)
