Freed American stays out of spotlight in Oman

MUSCAT, Oman — American Sarah Shourd is staying out of the spotlight for a second day in Oman’s seaside capital after being released from an Iranian prison.

The U.S. Embassy in Muscat said Thursday that the 32-year-old would not be speaking to the media in Oman except for a statement immediately before she leaves the country.

It is unclear how long she plans to stay in the Gulf Arab nation, which played a key role in securing her release by acting as intermediary.

Shourd was freed by Iran Tuesday. She was detained with fiance Shane Bauer and friend Josh Fattal along Iran’s border with Iraq in July 2009. They were later accused of spying. Her companions remain in Tehran’s Evin Prison under indictment on espionage-related charges.
