Value of Pakistan MNAs’ assets trebled in six years, says analysis

ISLAMABAD - A comparative analysis of the assets declared by Members of National Assembly (MNAs) belonging to the 12th and the 13th National Assembly of Pakistan has revealed that the average value of an MNA’s assets has increased three fold in six years from 2002-2003 to 2008-2009.
According to a Pildat Analysis of the “Declarations of Assets” submitted by MNAs, the average value of an MNA’s Assets, which was just below 27 million rupees in 2002-2003 in the 12th National Assembly, has increased to almost 81 million rupees in 2008-2009, The News quoted a news release, as revealing.
The analysis, the latest in the series “How Rich are Pakistani MNAs?” has used data contained in the Gazettes published by the Election Commission of Pakistan on October 15, 2008 and October 27, 2009, and indicates that an average MNA of the current National Assembly is twice as rich compared to his or her counterpart in the previous National Assembly.
In terms of individual wealth, Mehboob Ullah Jan of PPPP is the wealthiest MNA with total assets of 3.288 billion rupees, as per the 2008-2009 declaration, whereas Saeed Iqbal Chaudhary of the same party is the least wealthy MNA with net liabilities of approximately 29 million rupees.
It is noteworthy that the average value of assets owned by non-Muslim MNAs is20.35 million rupees, 75 per cent lower than the overall average of almost 81 million rupees, based on 2008-2009 figures. (ANI)
