Sarah Shourd Released From Prison

MUSCAT (GaeaTimes.com)- After a year of long wait, finally Sarah Shourd, one of the three detained U.S. hikers was released on Tuesday by the Iranian Authorities. The hiker was released from the Tehran prison and it was a moment of joy for her as well as her family. Sarah Shourd said that she had been waiting for this moment for a long time and she is “grateful” to be standing there, when she arrived at the airport.

Sarah Shourd gave her deepest thanks to the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos. She even thanked Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ayatollah Ali Khamanei and everyone who had been a part of making the moment come true for her as well as her family. Sarah Shourd was arrested in July 27, 2009 by Iran authorities along with Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal. The Iran Government accused them of entering the border illegally and having the links with US intelligence. The Iran authorities demanded 350,000 bail for Sarah Shourd’s release but the U. S. Government refused to pay it and her family said that they could not afford it.

Sarah Shourd said that she cannot enjoy her freedom alone without Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal. She said that they should also be standing there with her as they do not “deserve” to stay in prison any more. Sarah Shourd’s mother was excited when she heard that her daughter has been released from the prison. She told a reputed media source that she could not wait to “wrap” her daughter in her arms and hold her close when they are finally together again. The U.S. President Barack Obama thanked released a statement where it was maintained that he thanked Swiss authorities, Oman and urged the Oman authorities to release Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal as well.
