Hamid Ansari stresses need to accelerate efforts to develop Hindi

NEW DELHI - Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari today stressed the need to accelerate efforts to make real progress in the development of Hindi and strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.

Speaking at a function to mark Hindi Diwas here, Ansari said: “Apart from other Indian languages the popular words of some of the foreign languages could also be adopted to enrich Hindi.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram who also spoke partly in Hindi said that the benefit the fast progress in the IT sector should reach those who use Hindi as their medium.

He said that simple and easy words should be used instead of the difficult ones to promote Hindi and widen its reach.

He stressed the need to reach out to people in their own languages for more effective implementation of developmental schemes

Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken said that much needed to be done by the private sector to develop Hindi websites.

He expressed happiness over the fact that most Ministries and Departments of Government of India now have websites in Hindi.

It was on this day in 1949 when Hindi was accepted as the official language of the country.

Forty nine awards were presented on the occasion to individuals and organisations in various categories. (ANI)
