LONDON - Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would reportedly be the main speaker at Friday’s highly publicised dinner at Iowa, the small but politically crucial state that traditionally kicks off a White House run, fuelling speculations that she would seek the Presidential nomination to take on Barack Obama in 2012,

According to The Guardian, Palin would be the key speaker at a 100 dollar-a-seat Republican dinner in Des Moines in Iowa. Although she has not yet spoken in public about her role in 2012 Presidential elections, all indication show high possibility of she being a part of it.

The dinner is expected to provide firm evidence of Palin’s popularity. A number of Republican party activists are reportedly backing Palin, long before the contest has formally begun, the paper reports.

Marilea David, a lifelong Republican sees Palin as an alternative to the old-boy network.

“I think she is great. She is the only person I am excited about just now. She has been totally vetted by the liberal media and they did not come up with anything other than she is a ‘hick’, but if she runs, I will give her my time. I would love to campaign for her, ” David said.

This would be Palin’s first visit to Iowa since a short stop last year to publicise her autobiography, Going Rogue.

Among those planning to attend is Richard Rogers, a pilot who has been active in Republican politics since his teens. He reportedly plans to support Palin, as she resembles the qualities of Ronald Wilson Reagan, one of the party’s best-loved leaders.

“We have not seen such enthusiasm and people getting behind a charismatic leader from the conservative-libertarian side since Reagan. She has thought hard about what she believes in, is unapologetic about her beliefs and creates huge enthusiasm … If she decides to run for president, I will be an enthusiastic supporter,” he added.
