Rare vivid blue diamond up for sale at NYC auction
NEW YORK — A two-stone ring with a stunning 10.95-carat triangular-shaped blue diamond is headed for the auction block in New York City.
Christie’s says it’s the largest triangular-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond ever to come to auction. Its jewelry expert, Rahul Kadakia (rah-HOOL’ ka-DAH’-kee-uh), says the ring could bring $15 million when it goes on sale Oct. 20.
The ring is paired with a 9.87-carat white diamond. It was designed by Italian luxury jeweler Bulgari and purchased for $1 million in 1972 by a European businessman.
Fancy vivid blue is the strongest and purest saturation in any colored diamond.
Last year, Sotheby’s sold a 7.03-carat cushion-shaped blue diamond sold for $9.5 million.
