Jharkhand Police reach out to locals to combat Maoists

PALAMU - Aiming to combat Maoists by alleviating the plight of the people, the police in Jharkhand’s Palamu District organised a mass kitchen here on Friday, where they distributed free food and clothes to the poor people.

Hundreds of people congregated for the elaborate event, and actively took part in a range of activities organized by the police.

“The main purpose of this move is to link the people with the police. We are trying to reach out to them and resolve their issues by travelling door-to-door in every village to root out the Maoist menace,” said Palamu Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Satyanarayan Mandal.

Through a huge community kitchen, free lunch was also served to the locals after clothes were distributed among them.

Welcoming the move, the villagers maintained that such programmes were necessary to reduce the growing trust deficit between the people and the police.

“Many people join the extremists because of the lack of food and abject poverty. But such programmes are beneficial to the people, and prove that the people and police are still united to root out Maoism. If such initiatives take place regularly, then the distances between the people and the police would be reduced significantly,” said Santu Singh, a villager. (ANI)
