Allowing terrorists to regroup during flood crisis dangerous for Pak: Editorial

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan must not allow terrorists to regroup and succeed in their mission of recruiting flood-affected people, an editorial in a leading Pakistan newspaper has said.
“The country’s military is stretched to the limit as we speak. It is in the forefront of rescue and relief operations that were beyond the capacity, and perhaps will, of the civil administration,” an editorial in The Dawn said.
“Still, not for a moment can the fight against militancy be forgotten and nor can terrorists be allowed to regroup,” it added.
It also said that the reports trickling in from the tribal areas were troubling.
“On the run last year following the armed forces’ fierce offensive, groups operating under the umbrella of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan are now said to be making a comeback and making the most of the nation’s misery,” the editorial added.
According to reports, Taliban militants are reportedly trying to take advantage of the large-scale misery caused by the devastating floods in Pakistan by attempting to enlist 50,000 new fighters.
Thousands of insurgents are believed to be in flood-affected regions to carry out relief efforts.
In return for their humanitarian deed, the terrorists demand the men to promise that they would join the fight against the West.
It is reported that members of the Al-Qaeda supporting Al-Rehmat Trust and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) are behind the recruiting campaign. (ANI)
