Giddyup! NYC auction to trot out carousel horses
NEW YORK — Hand-carved carousel horses, tigers and bears from a bygone era are going on the auction block in New York City.
The 50 menagerie figures from the early 1900s will be offered at Guernsey’s on Sept. 25.
One horse had layers of paint stripped off but is still wearing bling: brightly colored glass jewels. It’s expected to fetch $30,000 to $40,000.
The items are owned by various collectors.
The auction also will feature 60 antique circus posters.
Those highlights include a Barnum & Bailey poster from 1912 featuring Japanese wrestlers, strongmen, gladiators and swordsmen.
