MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Normal life across cities in the country is likely to get adversely effected in the wake of the nationwide strike that has been called by trade unions affiliated to various opposition parties. Commuters were in for a harrowing time in the major metros such as the various means of transportation are going to be off the roads ensuring that the cities are completely paralyzed. In Mumbai, the affect of the 24 hours nationwide strike is expected to be more widespread as sections of the auto unions in the city have joined the bandh.

With the autos remaining off the roads, the commuters in Mumbai will have to face a tough time throughout the day as certain sections of the taxi union have also pledged their support to the nationwide strike. Commuters who had to reach their work places had to resort to the BEST buses and local trains to rush to their destination. The scenario in the rest of the metros was not different in any way as the strike has an adverse impact on the major modes of transportation causing many commuters to shell out a hefty amount even if they could catch the few taxis that have been plying on the roads.

Monday’s nationwide strike has been supported by the Bombay Auto Rickshaw and Taximen’s Union owing to which the autos and taxis affiliated to it have stayed away from the Mumbai roads. Sharad Rao, the president of the union told the media earlier that they had decided to support the strike as it was being called for serious issues such as price rise and violation of labor laws that affected the autorickshaw and taxi drivers as well.
