Sonya Thomas: The New Speed-Eating Champion

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- 43-year-old Alexandria, Virginia resident Sonya Thomas shocked the audiences present at the National Buffalo Wing Festival through a speed eating contest in which she gobbled down 189 chicken wings in just 12 minutes! The new speed eating champion created a record of sorts when she ate the large number of chicken wings within almost no time and registered triumph over the reigning champion Joey Chestnut who was able to gobble down only 169 wings which is quite less in comparison to Sonya Thomas’s standard.

The manner in which Sonya Thomas devoured the whopping number of chicken wings within minutes explained why she called herself the Black Widow. The 43-year-old Virginia native is known as Black Widow as she convincingly beats bigger male competitors in such kind of eating competitions. Sonya Thomas has won wide acclaims in the past for creating eating records for cheesecakes, jalapeno peppers, oysters, eggs, among others. However, her victory at the National Buffalo Wings Festival indeed enabled her to win wide appreciation as the thousands of people gathered at the event were awestruck when the skinny-looking woman ate as many as 189 chicken wings faster than any of her competitors in just 12 minutes. While Sonya Thomas ate 4.86 pounds while America’s No. 1 professional eater Joey Chestnut gobbled down 4.55 pounds of chicken.

Amazingly Sonya Thomas later told the reporters that even after devouring such whopping number of chicken wings she was hungry and described the wings as nothing more than ‘appetizer’. After the contest, Sonya Thomas also went on to participate at the Ridiculously Hot Buffalo Wing Eating Contest where she ate 20 more chicken wings.
