AGRA - A massive fire engulfed a 100 mega-volt ampere transformer installed at a power sub station in Agra on Sunday.

Twenty two fire tenders, including those from the Army and the Air Force, battled the fire for four and half hours before it was completely brought under control.

“When we came the fire was raging. We sprayed foam on it, we got two tankers, and now, we have ordered for a third tanker,” said L H Omprakash, an army officer.

Officials said that power supply to parts of Agra city would be affected for a month due to repair work of transmission lines.

The situation could have been worse if the 200 oil tankers parked close to the transformer had caught fire. (ANI)
