COIMBATORE - A scavenger has tried to commit self-immolation to protest against the local administration of Vadavalli town near Coimbatore. he local administration had terminated his and 19 others’ services allegedly without any prior intimation.

Twenty scavengers from Vadavalli Panchayat staged a demonstration on the streets of Coimbatore and wanted to approach the District Collector to protest against local administration.

While staging the protest, one of them named Dorai, drenched himself from a can of kerosene oil with an aim to commit self-immolation before the police intervened and arrested all of them.

“The administration has dismissed comrades who have been working for the past 12 years and more. They don’t have any answer as to how we will manage our families and this is to protest against the decision of the administration,” said Ilavaneer, one of the protesting scavengers.

“I have been working for the past ten years now and there is no basis for our suspension. What is the answer for this? There is no response for our sudden suspension,” said Muthu, another protestor. By Jehovah G (ANI)
