Hyundai August sales fall 11 percent compared with year-earlier record sales from incentives

August Auto Sales: Hyundai sales fall

NEW YORK — Hyundai Motor America said Wednesday its U.S. sales fell 11 percent in August compared with an all-time sales record a year ago when federal Cash for Clunkers rebates drew more buyers to showrooms.

BY THE NUMBERS: Sales fell to 53,603 vehicles from 60,467 in August 2009. Sales are up 17 percent so far this year.

TOP SELLERS: Sales of the redesigned Sonata nearly doubled to 21,399 last month.

HOT MODELS: The Tucson SUV. Hyundai sold 3,343 Tuscons, a 32 percent increase.
