JetBlue to fly between Boston, Newark starting May

NEW YORK — JetBlue Airways Corp. on Tuesday said it will expand its service out of Boston’s Logan International Airport to include four daily flights to Newark, N.J.

Forest Hills, N.Y.-based JetBlue said the flights to Newark Liberty International Airport will complement its existing schedule of six flights between Boston and New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The low-cost airline did not detail how much it plans to charge. It noted the average fare between Boston and Newark in the first quarter was $280 one way.

With the new flights, plus a series of flights slated to launch in November, JetBlue will have 75 trips daily leaving Logan.

JetBlue shares rose 18 cents, or 3.3 percent, to close at $5.71.
