LONDON - One of the 33 Chilean miners stuck deep underground awaiting rescue has proposed to his sweetheart in a handwritten note to take his 25 year relationship to the next level.

Romantic Esteban Rojas scribbled his proposal on a scrap of paper from where he was stuck 700 metres underground.

In the note to Jessica Ganiez, he wrote: “When I get out, let’s buy the dress and we’ll get married.”

“I thought he was never going to ask me. We have talked about it before, but he never asked me,” the Mirror quoted Jessica as telling the Daily Mail.

“I think it is a good idea.

“I have tried to hint at it many times, but it never happened. He always said getting married is a once in a lifetime thing and he would ask me when the time is best. Obviously, what has happened has made him do it.”

Although the couple are registered civil partners but they have never had a church wedding.

Since the San Jose mine collapsed on August 5, the couple have only been able to exchange letters.

Asked about Esteban’s gruelling wait to be rescued, Jessica said: “He knows that however long it takes, I’ll wait for him, because with him I’ve been through good and bad.” (ANI)
