AP source: Suspicious luggage sparks questioning
WASHINGTON — A law enforcement official says two men on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Amsterdam have been questioned by Dutch authorities after U.S. officials found suspicious items in luggage belonging to one of the men.
The official said a cell phone taped to a Pepto Bismol bottle and a knife and boxcutter were found in luggage believed to belong to Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because there was an ongoing investigation.
Homeland Security spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said once officials found suspicious items in luggage associated with two passengers on Sunday night’s flight, they notified the Dutch authorities.
Kudwa said none of the items found were considered dangerous “in and of themselves.”
